Claims Director-E&S Specialty (Transportation/Commercial Auto)

Drives the communication and performance for all claims to achieve operational results, including customer service, indemnity and expense outcome and strategic alignment with Division goals and objectives.

Works with claims leaders to develop training plans and strategies for the claims division.

Responsible for the development, coaching, training and mentoring of individual team members.

Responsible for acting as a consultative voice and support to the corresponding Underwriting operation.

This position will require the requisite technical knowledge and experience in support of the specific discipline.

3 or more direct reports.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 1.

Responsible for the overall management and operation of the Department to include: tactical and strategic planning; annual budget preparation and monitoring; projecting human resource and customer needs; hiring, motivating, promoting, developing and performance management of staff.

Provides claims handling expertise to new product development and account creation and leads, in partnership with Underwriting, new product development and management.

3.

Builds and maintains relationships with agents, brokers and underwriting.

Develops and implements plans to solve business problems related to the customer’s business and the service/products provided by Management Liability.

4.

Provides technical consultation/direction to all levels of claim professionals.

Functions as a content expert to assist in developing training curricula.

5.

Responsible for timely and appropriate evaluation of claims to identify and manage reserves in compliance with Company standards and reserving best practices.

6.

Reviews and analyzes files to ensure adherence to Claim Division guidelines and claims handling best practices.

Reviews claims quality results to identify coverage trends and to ensure consistency in policy interpretation.

Recommends training or other appropriate action.

7.

Responsible for managing the claims processes consistently within a technical specialty.

Coordinates efforts with other specialty claims functions such as Claims Legal, Recovery, CQR, SIU, and claims staff support.

8.

Provide direction and guidance regarding all aspects of litigation management.

9.

Liaisons with Reinsurance auditors to research and answer questions on specific claims.

10.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Education: High School Diploma or GED required.

College degree preferred.

Completion of general insurance courses, such as IIA, AEI and/or CPCU preferred.

Leadership/management classes and/or insurance technical classes preferred.

Licenses/Designations: N/A Experience: Minimum of ten years claims experience required including five years in claims management.

Requires multi-line experience with exposure to the general agency system.

Knowledge: Multi-line, multi-jurisdictional, and E&S experience is helpful; knowledge of the General Agency system, state insurance department regulation, unfair claim handling regulations, and a good understanding of tort law.

Skills/Competencies: Ability to effectively communicate interpersonally with individuals and groups.

Effective listening, oral and written communication skills necessary for customer contact, negotiation, presentations, project management, personnel management, technical and nontechnical contacts preferred.
