JOB SUMMARY:

LOCATION ALERT: This position is located at the Arizona State Prison Complex – Lewis which is between Buckeye and Gila Bend; this is 55 miles from central Phoenix.

The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) is seeking a Resource Center Specialist to manage and support the Resource Center operations within the complex.

JOB DUTIES:

– Provides and facilitates mandated legal and paralegal access services to the inmate population

– Oversees daily operations of cataloging and circulation of resource materials including maintenance of department policies and required legal resources for inmate access

– Reviews current and newly acquired materials to ensure compliance with established standards

– Promotes and provides information on available programs, classes, and other services

– Trains and oversees inmate workers

– Assists in ordering Resource Center materials

– Drives on State business

– Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

– Principles and practices of professional library work including modern library tools

– Knowledge of modern library practices and cataloging to include: AACR2 (Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules 2nd Edition), MARC21 (Machine-Readable Cataloging), XML (Extensible Markup Language), Dublin Core, Dewey Decimal System, etc.

– Standard reference materials

– Computer usage and various software programs (Microsoft Word, Excel and library automation)

– Operation of standard office equipment including scanners, copiers and printers

– Principles and practices of inmate management and supervision

Skill in:

– Organizational and time management

– Conflict resolution techniques

– Motivation and leadership techniques

– Verbal and written communication

Ability to:

– Work in a prison environment

– Possess professional knowledge of all aspects of library principles, methodologies and management techniques and apply them in a correctional Resource Center

– Establishing and maintaining effective work relationships

– Learn and adhere to department policies and procedures

– Perform all required tasks in a timely manner

SPECIAL SELECTION FACTOR(S):

Requires possession of, and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to drivers license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12).

SELECTIVE PREFERENCE(S):

– Associates degree or higher in Library Sciences or a related field

– Arizona Notary Public Certification

RETIREMENT:

Positions in this classification participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS).

Enrollment eligibility will become effective after 27 weeks of employment.
