Bottom line – “In a nutshell”:


  • Experience in a Lead role previously
  • Application integration experience
  • Experience with legacy systems is highly desired
  • Good background in Java, API, microservices
  • Good communicator; able to close the bridge with other teams within the organization
  • 50% leadership, 50% hands-on experience

  • Progress reporting highly desired but not required; having a background in reporting, in general, is highly preferred.

  • Additionally, this individual will be mentoring junior team members and they have to be pretty technically Savvy because the junior team members are very technical and they need somebody who’s going to keep up with mentoring and understanding of technical side with this very technical group of Junior individuals that they will mentor.

Role Summary:

The Core Banking Transformation technology team seeks a dynamic technologist to lead development efforts to integrate MUB’s current application ecosystem with the new Core Deposits platform that will provide the foundation for transforming deposit services at “the Companies”. While transitioning the bank from a traditional, batch-oriented ecosystem to a real time deposit services platform by redesigning or replacing monolithic legacy systems with cloud-native architectures, the Development Team Lead partners with the different legacy development teams to deliver integration solutions that are aligned with the target state design principles.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the design and development of software for the integration of the new core banking deposit system with the “the Companies” application ecosystem, re-architecting systems as necessary.
  • Partner with business, program management, architecture, infrastructure, system owners, 3rd party vendors, testing and other teams as necessary to ensure successful delivery.
  • Balance the technology strategy with practical implementation approaches to ensure development is aligned with the desired target state.
  • Lead onshore and offshore resources, including recruiting, mentorship and technologist development.
  • Identify, handle, and apply mitigation plans against risks to successful delivery.
  • Identify issues and remove roadblocks that hinder progress of the development teams.

Required Education & Certifications:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent professional experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Minimum ten years of experience in designing, developing and delivering critical service solutions within a large, complex IT environment, possessing expert-level skills in three or more of the following areas:
    • Core Banking Solutions
    • Channels Platforms (Mobile, Call Center, Branches, Online Banking, etc.)
    • ETL Software
    • Service-Oriented Architectures
    • Mainframe Platforms
  • Able to recruit, lead, motivate and inspire software developers to achieve bold goals
  • Experience integrating new technology and platforms with critical legacy systems
  • Ability to stitch best of breed tools and practices together to solve business problems, embracing the security (confidentiality, integrity, availability) and complexity challenges that may arise
  • Comfort with ambiguity; the ability to find the correct path given limited guidance
  • Possesses an automate everything mindset, from CI/CD based deployment to team collaboration
  • Experienced in iterative / agile team management including transformation at scale
  • Deep knowledge in design principles, break/fix management and code management
  • Consistent track record of developing, deploying and delivering quality solutions
  • Strong communication, collaborative & presentation skills
  • Often the “go to” person for the hard-technical challenges that others avoid
  • Able to travel out of state

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Experience within a high integrity, and/or regulated environment (government, healthcare, financial sectors, etc.)
  • Ability to travel internationally
  • Experience converting from monolithic to microservices
