Northrop Grumman Space Sector is searching for an experienced Principal Engineer Guidance, Navigation & Control “Aerodynamicist” to join the Aerodynamics Team within Launch Vehicles business unit located in Chandler, AZ.

NG is seeking a Principal Level Aerodynamicist to assist across multiple disciplinary departments associated with applied aerodynamic efforts supporting a wide variety of high speed missile systems and space launch vehicles.

Experience in aerodynamic analysis and characterization of missile, rocket, or aircraft systems are required capabilities.

A bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university required with an MS preferred.

Responsibilities:* Aerodynamic related assignments will include analyses and model predictions to support 6DOF aerodynamic model development for use in trajectory simulations.* Assignments will include wind-tunnel test planning and execution, 6DOF simulation aerodynamic model development, aerodynamic related loads predictions, and other aerodynamic related analyses required in support of final design of new missile or rocket systems.Job Summary Use general knowledge of vehicle dynamics, aerodynamics, propulsion, classical/modern control and estimation theory to conduct difficult aerospace engineering tasks.

Collaborate with others to determine best means to achieve objectives.

Plan and conduct aerospace engineering work that includes evaluation, selection and adaptation or modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria.

Job Responsibilities Capable of being an integral contributor in creation of advanced launch vehicle aerodynamic designs.

Support launch vehicle design through all phases from conceptual and preliminary aerodynamic design analyses to integration and test activities.

Perform aerodynamic configuration trade studies on mission performance that includes effects of static and dynamic S&C, propulsion, and mass properties.

Develop aerodynamic data bases for use in 6 degree of freedom launch vehicle simulation models (table generation with logical dependencies, uncertainty analyses, V&V techniques).

Present work and technical findings to management and senior leadership through design reviews and program milestones (proposal efforts, technical reports, and formal customer presentations).

Preparation of man level staffing requirements to support development of a rocket vehicle design from concept to flight.

Manage tasks and schedule to ensure smooth coordination with program and other leads.

Assign/monitor work, review for accuracy.Basic Qualifications: 5 Years with Bachelors in Science; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD.

Bachelor’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering.* 5+ years of related work experience.* Active Secret Security Clearance is required* U.S.

Citizenship is required.Experience Working level experience with all flight regimes (subsonic, transonic, supersonic, hypersonic, and rarefied flows).

Working level experience with current legacy aerodynamic computer analysis programs, and support development of modified and new software tools and methods (CFD and industry predictive codes
– Fluent, DSMC, Loci-Chem, Fun3D, Cart3D, Missile Datcom).

Working level experience with Wind Tunnel Testing and evaluation (transonic and supersonic).

Working familiarity with launch vehicle aeroelastic analyses (distributed loads, deflected vehicle effects).

Working familiarity with launch vehicle venting analysis requirements and engineering methodologies.

Preferred Qualifications:Master’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering is preferred.* High speed wind-tunnel experience.* Working level experience with all flight regimes (subsonic, transonic, supersonic, hypersonic, and rarefied flows).* CFD Experience using codes such as CART3D, ANSYS, STARCCM+, or similar type code.* Experience with Missile DATCOM or similar industry pre-design prediction code.Northrop Grumman is committed to hiring and retaining a diverse workforce.
